About

I was born in 1965 in Middlesbrough, and I now live and work in Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire.

I have a BA Hons in Printed Textiles (University of Ulster) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Art Therapy (Glasgow Caledonian University). These two disciplines continue to influence my art.

Much of my artwork explores the relationship between the village of Robin Hood’s Bay and the North Sea and, in particular, where the boundaries between the two are blurred.

As well as fine art photography, I spend a lot of my time combing the incredible beach at Robin Hood’s Bay, which you can read more about in my blog.

I tend not to accept commissions, but if a particularly interesting project comes along I will consider it. This was the case when I was recently commissioned to produce photographs for The Days That Shaped Me by Marry Waterson and Oliver Knight.

Thank you for visiting my website. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Lou Hughes.
